Your trash cans need to be cleaned and sanitized regularly to remove spills, gunk, and odors. The smell of rotten trash and spills inside of your trash can attracts rodents, roaches, and ants. Before cleaning, rinse or spray your trash can inside and out with a garden hose. To sanitize, mix one cup of Clorox bleach Clorox bleach with 1 gallon of water and a tablespoon of Dawn Antibacterial dish soap or any other brand that you prefer. Mix well and allow this to soak in your trash can for 30 minutes to an hour. Use a long handled brush to clean the sides and bottom of the trash can. Rinse thoroughly and turn upside down to dry.

Pro Tip:

  • Always pour out or drain liquids in a sink before tossing containers into a trash can.
  • Always use a trash can liner or trash bag inside of your trash can.
